We bumped into Kayla’s Instagram profile and were instantly smitten by this youngster’s incredible style and achievements. But something rang familiar about her name and soon we discovered that we had indeed heard of her before. After all, it’s not every day that you find a girl beating grown men in motorcycle racing, and already having numerous victories under her belt.

We needed to get to know her better, suspecting that the kid’s smile hides the attitude of a seasoned motorcycle racer. We reached out and asked her 10 questions about bikes, life and her dreams and goals.
Kayla, how old are you, and how long have you been riding motorbikes?
I’m 10 years old, I’ve been riding bikes since I was 4.

When did you start racing competitively and what are the main achievements so far?
I started racing flattrack when I was 5, my most proud achievements are my 5 regional and 3 national championships racing on full-size bikes with WERA in 2017, and also being selected by the ama as the 2017 ama youth roadracer of the year.

How did you discover the passion for riding bikes, where did the idea come from?
My dad inspired me, he used to race professionally and I would see old magazine articles and videos of him racing on tv.
ùWhat do the teachers and friends in school say about your sport?
My teachers and classmates think it’s real cool, but I don’t think they totally understand what it is I do.
Do you have a dream bike, what is the most important thing that you look for in a motorcycle?
My dream bike would be any of the factory MotoGP bikes, I particularly like the better handling bikes.

What is your dream, or plan for the future in the motorcycling world, do you want to become a professional racer?
My dream and goal is to eventually race at the world level in either WSBK or MOTOGP.

Who are your motorcycling role models? Who’s riding style do you like the most?
Marc Marquez is my idol, he took the sport to the next level. I like Cal Crutchlow’s riding style the best though.

What would you say to other girls or young women who want to try riding on track?
I would tell any girl or young woman to definitely try it, and go into it with an open mind and don’t psych yourself out by thinking it’s only a “man’s sport”

What is the best part of racing for you, what do you enjoy the most?
The best part is winning for sure, second best would be pushing the bike to its limits and betting the boys/men, lol

What do you do in your free time when you don’t train or race?
When not racing I’m in the school chorus and band. I play the saxophone.

Kayla can train at her home, on a 1/2 mile 10 turn road course. Actually her dad has built it for himself. As Dave tells us: “ that was always a dream of mine to have my own little track, but soon enough it became kaylas! It has been real handy for training as the nearest track is about 3 hours away.”

We hope to see a lot more of Kayla’s achievements in the future, as she appears to have all the right ingredients to make it big as a racer! The sportsmanship, the passion, the fun loving attitude and above all, the super supportive father.

In the meantime we’ll be following Kayla’s next achievements and we’re happy to welcome her as a honorary member of the MissBiker Community!
